Hi I'm Sara.
I hate introductions but I love bacteria.

  1. Hi Sara! I was thinking about your "last words" post (I noticed it last night as I signed off from the computer and didn't write a reply then) — and then with this morning's coffee I found a perfect article to share with you, but the post was gone. Anyway, it's an article about the intersection of science fiction and medicine, and I remembered that the whole science v. imagination thing was part of your post. Here is the article:
New Database of Science Fiction Works That Deal With Medical Themes
... and there's also a cartoonist who does all kinds of cartoons on the science/creation intersection that I bet you would like. You'll see I share a lot of his cartoons in the announcements. Oh, that was also his "vacation home map" that was in the story assignment too. Anyway, here's one of them; I can't put a picture in a comment at Blogger (argh!), but here's a link:
    Science and Science Fiction
Anyway, not to worry: just relax and have fun with the weird messiness of things imaginary. Good things will happen. I promise! :-)

    1. Dr. Gibbs,

Thank you! I appreciate that. I did take it down; I felt I was a little harsh about everything. I started getting the "back to school" nerves last night, which is really just anxiety and stress, so I vented on the blog. I actually just edited it a bit and put it back up.

I'll check those links out. Hopefully I can garner some creativity this semester, because as much as I love science, it's hard not having a creative outlet when I believe that I truly need one.

    2. Oh, that's great... and blogs can be so useful that way; you can edit things, get inspired, go back and change things. It's endless tinkering, which I definitely approve of. And creativity comes in ALL forms... but the multiple-choice true-false orientation of so much of school kind of stifles our awareness of the creative things we are doing all the time. It is my hope that this class can take that creativity and bring it out into the open, word by word and image by image. And, even better, it's usually fun too!

About Tom Gauld — sometimes I feel like he is our class's personal cartoonist: his cartoons are so spot-on for this class again and again. I am sure he will come up with new ones I can snag this semester too... :-)
